Tonight I watched the half hour Barack Obama special and I thought the show was well done. I am certain the purchase of a half hour of prime time television, coupled with Hollywood quality production elements, bought a lot of votes. I was able to see through the rhetoric and see that Barack Obama told America what they wanted to hear, however, for the most part, I saw no real plan on how Barack would implement his agenda, nor where the money would come from to fund the plans. Our country has a national budget where 85% is spent on debt. We have limited resources left to draw from!
On the other hand, the media continues it's love affair with Obama. I opened up MSNBC to this page and found the page below. The "unbiased" reporting highlighted Obama's strengths while drawing attention to a criticism of McCain. In the reporting, I've noted two inconsistencies. Here are direct quotes and my accompanying comments (in bold):
- "Barack Obama took to the airwaves with a 30-minute ad that mocked John McCain for his self-described lack of economic prowess and his choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate. NBC’s Lee Cowan reports." ~ Really? I do not remember anything said about McCain or Palin in the 30-minute special.
- "The Nation’s Chris Hayes talks about John McCain’s secret national security round table followed by public remarks in which he tried to employ fear as a campaign tactic." ~ I imagine siding with Obama wasn't enough. The media found it necessary to introduce some titillating negative publicity for the McCain campaign.
What say you about the 30 minute special? What say you about the media's coverage of the election thus far? Does the screenshot (below) of this news page look like unbiased reporting to you?

I'm Cassie and I work for The Lane Real Estate Team (my Mom and Dad) as their virtual assistant. A rather nice arrangement, I might add. I work for them, and they pay my college tuition! Not bad! If you need a great real estate team, or property manager, consider Team Lane for all Southeast Washington real estate needs. :)

Today's media has lost it's soul. Walter Cronkite is spinning in his grave gone are the days of letting the medie give you the facts so you can think for yourself they now tell you what to think
Dave
Statisticly products sold in infomercials are always overhyped, and fail to deliver as promised! Is Walter Cronkite dead?
Headlines....Oboma spends Millions on 30 minute infommercial vs. Palin spends $150,000 on campaign wardrobe, but it is ok, she is donating them to charity after she wears them....unethical?.....or not?
All I read about is how Fox News is so biased...
Gee, if they are, it's hardly a fair fight against CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC.
Even some of the media lamented the obvious media bias.

Cassie: I thought tonight's thirty minute Obama-mercial was a tad boring, but, then again, I have been watching all of this stuff for months. My only hope is that tonight's message might have brought him more votes than it lost him... so he ends up being elected this coming Tuesday.
Remember the new election schedule. Due to the large expected turnout... voting will be in alphabetical order according to party name. Democrats will vote on Tuesday, and Republicans will vote on Wednesday. Please try and get the word out.
I already voted, and it weas not for Obama.-Dinah
I love the cartoon above. Oh the Obama love affair.
Well, I am the voter both candidates are after, The middle-aged white lady, who hasn't decided. Guess what? I still haven't...I have tried to stay away from what the media has to say, because no matter what you listen to, it is a bias for or against someone. I have been collecting all of the flyers that come in the mail. Before I go to vote, I will read ALL of them, and decide for myself. Unfortunately, I have NEVER voted for a winning candidate, so who do you want me to vote for? =o)
Dinah: That's ok... I forgive you. I will continue to read your blog posts regardless. I like the way you write :) Take care...
Didn't waste my time. Wouldn't have if McCain did it either.
Although Obama is the sleezier of the two. I saw an ad on tonight claiming the Heritage Foundation supported his tax plan. It doesn't and had filed an suit for injunction against the ads. Obama has refused to pull them.
It's up to us to show that this grassroots movement will do what it takes to change politics in America.
Obama for America
Real Estate needs McCain. Home sales will really dry up in the next 18 months with Barack Hussein Obama in the white house.
Raising taxes has NEVER stimulated the economy.... in this country... or any other!
And Barack stating he's not raising taxes is a LIE. The Bush tax cuts are going to expire and Barack isn't calling it a tax increase ("It's just the end of the cuts, not an increase"). Shame on you Barack.
Also, why does the Obama/Biden ticket state that tax cuts will be for those who earn over $250,000... then for those who earn over $200,000... and then for those who earn over $150,000? Is it not a serious RED FLAG to everyone paying attention that if there was a specific cut in mind, the terms would not be changing on a daily basis.
All I have to say is, NO. Thank the lord the Phillies won!!!!!
I couldn't resist...
"unbiased" has been a word being abused so many times by the Media people. It has been a trend for many centuries.
Those cartoons are too funny:) He got my vote that's for sure! But I do agree the media is a tad excited about him too.
I really feel the media is doing their best to get Obama elected. I'm not going to go into all the reasons, but if you follow an analyze what they report on, it should be obvious.
Cassie, when I saw that he was on every channel and that, basically, the "media" had decided that we HAD TO HEAR his message, I got up and went to read a book. I would have done the same thing if it had been McCain. I don't want anyone pushed down my throat!
I hear ya Connie. I watched the show and if I didn't know what the issues were I would vote for Obama. I think he is one of he greatest presidential orators in history. I'm absolutely in awe of his ability to move those he addresses, however, his policies suck! Most votes are not willing or able to move beyond cover and read the book.
Having said this, I'm not fan of McCain. McCain is simply a better choice (IMO) than Obama. McCain is the lesser of two evils.
Sadly, when political differences are put aside, I think most are not thrilled with the offerings available to us this presidential election.
Cassie Marie, The media will never paint an unbiased view, that will not pay the bills, but nice hoping they would.
@Jane Page,
You're pulling my leg, right? Here's an entire category of cartoons devoted to Media Bias! :o)
Interesting analysis of media bias. There are certainly a lot of "funny" things going on right now, and like most I'm anxious for the election to be over, and I'm DEFINITELY casting my votes!
Cassie... I will put my political views aside here..... and just get on my knees and pray. I think so much was over-looked when it came to voting and the media didn't help. I think to much focus was on the war spending and not what would I do now, besides withdraw troops... I just think Obama had the charisma to suck many in.... and the young vote and African-American vote is what pushed him over the top. Spending? He will spend.. I think Cameron Novak made an excellent comment about what is to come. And Obama's stance on who to tax. Yes, he changed it like 3 times and what does that tell you?
Woooo.. anyhoo... I said I would put my views aside... lol In regards to the media... this will never change. You have some major papers that are Republican and some that are Democratic... just as you do with TV stations.... again, this will never change. I wrote about this the other day...
Hey all you MEDIA OUTLETS, listen up, I am pissed !!!!!!
But I kept politics out of it.... in any case, thanks for the post and info...
